FREE IN THE SPIRIT

FREE IN THE HOLY SPIRIT
2 Corinthians 3:17 “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.”

The Scene: Dune buggies sailing up and down over the sand dunes. A time of fun and freedom–representing the Christian operating in the spirit of righteousness. When we are free in Jesus, our Lord and Savior, then we are free in the Spirit. We can operate (live) in His love, peace, joy, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. (See Galatians 5:22)
It is only through God’s Word that we are truly set free to become all our Father in heaven has planned for us.

John 8:31-32 ” To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, ‘If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.’ “
And only through the freedom that God gives we can gain eternal life in heaven with Jesus Christ ,our Lord and Savior.
John 17:2-3 “For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. “

OUTWARD APPEARANCES

OUTWARD APPEARANCES

1 Samuel 16:7 “But the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.’ “

The Scene: A green field full of flowers–they look pretty today. Although blooms may appear to be lovely, they are only short-lived. Only our trust in the Lord and the Truth of His Word will last for eternity. 1 Peter 1:24-25 “For, ‘All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord stands forever.’ And this is the word that was preached to you.”

Matthew 24:35 ” Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.”

Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, knows that everything of this world is temporary. He desires that His people, those entrusted to Him by Father God, will believe in Him, as the only-begotten Son of God, our Deliverer, and will choose to live with Him in heaven eternally.

The desires of the flesh bring only temporary joy and happiness– spend your time and thoughts on Jesus and His Word. Live eternally for Him alone.

5-151 OUTWARD APPEARANCES

WHEN?

WHEN?

Jeremiah 44:12 “I will take away the remnant of Judah who were determined to go to Egypt to settle there. They will all perish in Egypt; they will fall by the sword or die from famine. From the least to the greatest, they will become an object of cursing and horror, of condemnation and reproach.”

The Scene: Symbolic of the great pyramids of Egypt: they have stood the test of time. The Jewish people were made slaves and chose to fall into idolatry, like the nations around them. When will God make things right for the righteous remnant of Israel regarding the debt Egypt owed (and other nations) for their harsh treatment of the Jews and their own unrighteous acts (sin) against Father God?

Jeremiah Chapter 19 answers the above questions. Specifically, read Jeremiah 19:16-25, beginning with verse 11: “This is what the Lord Almighty says, ‘I will smash this nation and this city just as this potter’s jar is smashed and cannot be repaired. They will bury the dead in Topheth until there is no more room.” v.15 “This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says, ‘Listen! I am going to bring on this city and the villages around it every disaster I pronounced against them, because they were stiff-necked and would not listen to my words.’ “

Father God does not forget anything that people or nations do, righteous or evil. God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him: Hebrews 11:6 “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”

5-149 GOD REMEMBERS ALL

GOD’S HOUSE (THE CHURCH)

GOD’S HOUSE (THE CHURCH)

1 Timothy 3:15 “If I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.”

The Scene: Three pillars supporting a slab (roof), representing the Church–the three pillars: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (the Holy Trinity) hold up the born-again Church of God. And there is nothing that can destroy it– for it has been built on a firm foundation, Jesus Christ, the cornerstone. 1 Peter 2:4-7 “As you come to him, the living Stone–rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to him–you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. For in Scripture, it says: ‘See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame.’ Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe, ‘The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone.’ “

1 Corinthians 3:16-17 “Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him; for God’s temple is sacred, and you are that temple.”

5-150 The Church

SOAR

SOAR

Isaiah 60:8 “Who are these that fly along like clouds, like doves to their nests?”

The Scene: A golf ball sailing through the air, as seen through the eye of a video camera with telephoto lens. The dimples on the ball make the ball more aerodynamic, which was developed a long time ago.

As Christians, we are like the dimpled golf ball. It is only when we go through trials/problems in our daily lives (represented by the dimples on the golf ball) that we can soar more perfectly in the Spirit.

Isaiah 40:31 “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

James 1:2, 12 “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life, that God has promised to those who love him.”

5-148 GROWTH THROUGH TRIAL

ETERNAL VIGILANCE

ETERNAL VIGILANCE

Psalm 50:3 “Our God comes and will not be silent; a fire devours before him, and around him a tempest rages.”

The Scene: An eternal fire burning–symbolic of our God– a consuming fire Who is eternally vigilant.

Psalm 97:3 “Fire goes before him and consumes his foes on every side.”

Hebrews 12:28-29 “Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our ‘God is a consuming fire.’ ” (See Exodus 24:17)

Whatever is not of God, one day, will be burned up in the fire. As Christians, God’s children, we are to spend our time thinking of those things that are of God and pleasing to Him–like studying His Word and spending time in prayer & meditation; not thinking or worrying about what tomorrow will bring.

Matthew 6:30 “If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?”

Our God is a good God who is vigilant to watch over us, helping us to be overcomers as He has taught us.

CHOICES

CHOICES

Revelation 3:7-8 “To the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: These are the words of him who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open. I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.”

The Scene: Life’s pathway with forks representing choices we make throughout our lives; the doors through which we may choose to pass on our life’s journey.

God gives us free will and too often that is the option we choose, rather than following the planned pathway He has chosen for us. We should only listen to that still, small voice and follow the Holy Spirit’s lead. He tries to guide us in the direction of choices that are best for us.

The great quandary: 1) Which way–closer to God?

2) What does God want for me? He has a plan.

3) What do I want? What do I need?

Only one way is the best choice for us. In real life the doors are not normally clearly marked. We make choices bY OUR OWN free will. But which is best? The answers to these questions are found in His Word, listening to His Holy Spirit, prayer, and sometimes Godly counsel from a mature Christian.

We can pray Revelation 3:7 and wait for the Lord to work out our best the solution for us, in His time.

Isaiah 40:31 “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

We can save a lot of time and effort and, sometimes, heartache if we will follow after peace and put our hope and trust in the Lord’s choices for us.

Psalm 20:7 “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.”

And we can show our confidence in Him—

Psalm 40:1 “I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry.”

Psalm 37:7” Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.”

Psalm 27:14 “Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. “

God calls us to be patient; He does not force an issue. The Holy Spirit will lead us through if we will but follow Him.

6-3 CHOICES

GOD’S VOICE

GOD’S VOICE

Isaiah 30:21 “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’ “

The Scene: An ear–depicted as striving to hear God’s voice.

Father God in His wisdom sent His children, not only a Savior, but an Advocate with the Father, His Holy Spirit, to guide us into all truth and wisdom.

Matthew 3:11“I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me will come one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not fit to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.”

The above words were spoken by Jesus’ cousin, John the Baptist. The Holy Spirit will answer our questions and requests (prayers).

Jeremiah 33:3 “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”

Our job is to listen to God’s voice and do what He says.

James 1:22-23” Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.

5-146 God’s Voice

HIS COVENANTS

HIS COVENANTS

Isaiah 59:21 ” As for me, this is my covenant with them, says the Lord. My Spirit, who is on you, and my words that I have put in your mouth will not depart from your mouth, or from the mouths of your children, or from the mouths of their descendants from this time on and forever, says the Lord.”

The Scene: A Scroll representing all the covenants* Father God has made with His children.

*COVENANT: A mutual agreement between God and man. An example; covenant of grace, is that in which God engages to bestow salvation on man, upon the condition that man, woman shall believe in Christ and yield obedience to the terms of the Gospel. (Reference: American Dictionary of the English Language–Noah Webster 1928 11th Edition 1999, page 50.)

We know that God’s covenants are true because they are written in Jesus’ blood, the Son of of Father God.

Zechariah 9:11-12a ” As for you, because of the blood of my covenant with you, I will free your prisoners from the waterless pit. Return to your fortress, O prisoners of hope; even now I announce that I will restore twice as much to you.”

Deuteronomy 7:9 ” Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commands.”

As obedient children belonging to God we CAN CLAIM ALL OF THE COVENANT promises, and we know that God does not, cannot lie. And because of the oath he gave to Abraham, He swore upon himself–for there is no one greater than He himself and His covenants (see Genesis 22:17) which He made.

Hebrews 6:13-15 “When God made his promise to Abraham, since there was no one greater for him to swear by, he swore by himself, saying, ‘I will surely bless you and give you many descendants.’ And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised.”

5-145 COVENANTS

MYSTERY REVEALED

MYSTERY REVEALED
Colossians 1:26-27 The mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the saints. To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.”

WHAT IS MEANT BY “THE MYSTERY?”
Ephesians 3:6 “This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus.”
WHO IS THE REVEALER OF THE MYSTERY?
Matthew 3:17 “And a voice from heaven said, ‘This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.’ “

The Scene: A book– symbolic of the revelation of the mystery of Christ. Jesus came to earth as a man to save the world and to reveal His relationship with Father God, His Father. His coming in the flesh shows the world what Father God is like, “If you have seen Me you have seen the Father,” Jesus said.”
WHAT DID HE REVEAL?
Colossians 1:15-18 “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the the head of the body, the Church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation.”
WHY A MYSTERY?
1 Corinthians 2:14-16 “The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.”
CONCLUSION:
1 Corinthians 2:8-10 “None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. However, as it is written: ‘No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him’–but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit.”

Jesus came to earth as a man to save the world from sin and to reveal His relationship with His Father, Father God: Jesus stated His mission and purpose more than once in the Holy Scriptures.

1 Timothy 3:16 “Beyond all question, the mystery of godliness is great: He appeared in a body, was vindicated by the Spirit, was seen by angels, was preached among the nations, was believed on in the world, was taken up in glory.”

There is much proof through antiquities that the above is true. Many, many discoveries have been found over the millenium that all of the Holy Bible is true.

Jesus want all His people, the saints, those born-again, the true Church, to know the truth of God and His plan for salvation. Even so, come Lord Jesus!
