ACCUSING TONGUE

ACCUSING TONGUE

Proverbs 12:22 “The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in men who are truthful.”

The Scene: Eleven open mouths–eleven being the Biblical number for judgment, disorder, imperfection, and disintegration.

Proverbs 6:16-19 “There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers.”

James 3:8-9 “But no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God’s likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be.”

The tongue is one of the smallest parts of our body, but is the most powerful part of our body for speaking good or evil. We are called to speak the truth in love as led by the Holy Spirit. We are commanded by the holy Scriptures to speak neither gossip nor lies. Our God is a God of truth and we are to follow His example.

5-111 LYING

BE AT PEACE

John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

The Scene: A sailboat with a tall masts, sailing slowly, peacefully, passing by the viewer. Listen to the quiet waters lapping against the hull of the sailboat as it cuts through the waters, driven by the gentle breezes.

A quiet time–be still and at rest! Take three deep breaths and let them out slowly! 1…2…3!

Colossians 3:15 “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.”

When we are at peace is the time when we have our best opportunities to hear from God through His Holy Spirit.

Isaiah 32:17 ” The fruit of righteousness will be peace; the effect of righteousness will be quietness and confidence forever.”

5-108 PEACE

REST

REST

Matthew 11:28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. “

The Scene: The bare mountain tops, that seemingly reach upward to the bright blue sky and touch the white puffy clouds that are drifting slowly through the peaks and range. Now is the time to rest, the scene is suggesting. There are those who need a Sabbath rest, but say they are too busy.

Mark 6:31 “Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, ‘Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.’ “

Put yourself in timeout on a regular basis–take a Sabbath rest when you are weary and tired. Jesus Christ our Lord will restore you, bring you peace within. He is the God of all peace.

Hebrews 4:9-11 “There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from his. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following their example of disobedience.”

SING UNTO THE LORD

SING UNTO THE LORD

Isaiah 12:5-6 ” Sing to the Lord for he has done glorious things; let this be known to all the world. Shout aloud and sing for joy, people of Zion, for great is the Holy One of Israel among you.”

The Scene: Pages of sheet music falling from the sky– falling around God’s people. Soon, people began to pick up the music and sing the songs that were written on the sheet music.

Psalm 95:1-2 “Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song.”

1 Corinthians 14:15 “So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my mind.”

When we sing in the Spirit we sing words of the Holy Spirit–praise, love, truth. Singing to the Lord can raise our spirits and restore our joy.

James 5:13 “Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise.”

5-107 SING

PURE HEART

PURE HEART

Psalm 51:10 ” Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast Spirit within me.”

The Scene: A beating heart, a dark heart with the hand of Jesus Christ our Lord pulling away the old, crusty, black layer which represents sin. Underneath the uncovered part of the heart is now white as snow, pure.

It takes continuous prayer asking Jesus to uncover our pure hearts. Only Jesus is the changer of hearts. We are called to prayers of repentance, asking for, “More of Jesus’ heart, more of Jesus, less of me.” Then Jesus can uncover more of a pure heart in us.

Matthew 5:8 “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.”

Psalm 24:3-6 “Who may ascend the hill of the Lord? Who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to an idol or swear by what is false. He will receive blessing from the Lord and vindication from God his Savior. Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek your face, O God of Jacob.”

A CHOSEN VESSEL

                            A CHOSEN VESSEL

1 Peter 2:9 “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”

The Scene:  A representation of God’s people, hand-made by Father God. All God’s people are very carefully, wonderfully made in His image.

Psalm 139:14-15 “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body.”

Revelation 17:14 “They will make war against the Lamb, but the Lamb will overcome them because he is Lord* of lords and King of kings– and with him will be his called, chosen and faithful followers.”

* Lord = Owner:  (Unger’s Bible Dictionary, 1977 Edition) and therefore has absolute control.  Those who choose to belong to Jesus, our Lord and Savior, have His promises, which includes eternal life with Him in heaven.

Romans 10:13 “For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

5-161 GOD OUR MAKER

GENTLE IS OUR GOD

GENTLE IS OUR GOD

The Scene: Large breaking waves near shore, rolling in one after another. Then the wave flattens out and continues to roll onto the shore, gently caressing the sandy beach.

Psalm 89:9 “You rule over the surging sea; when its waves mount up, you still them.”

Sometimes the large waves seem the only way people see God–a God of awesome power. The people fear Him. But, if His people would focus on who our holy God really is, they will see His gentleness, like the waves as they gently stroke the sandy shores.

God is mighty, but toward His children who obey Him, He is a loving, kind, forgiving, Father.

Psalm 46:10 “Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted in the earth.”

Listen to His gentle voice, spoken through His Holy Spirit.

Psalm 107:29-31 “He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed. They were glad when it grew calm, and he guided them to their desired haven. Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men.”

“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever.” (Psalm 136:1)

5-159 GENTLE GOD

MAN-MADE TRAPS

MAN-MADE

Jeremiah 18:22 “Let a cry be heard from their houses when you suddenly bring invaders against them, for they have dug a pit to capture me and have hidden snares for my feet.”

The Scene: Snares/traps/pit–hidden by the leaves over the traps, representing man’s sin.

Colossians 3:5;8-10 “Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.”

This vision shows us, in the spiritual sense, when man sins, he sets himself up for failure and opens himself up to entrapment by Satan. As new creations we, however, have the Holy Spirit to keep us on the right track, the narrow path of righteousness, thus avoiding a lot of trouble and pain. God is with us: Immanuel!

5-160 SATAN’S TRAPS

BREATH OF THE LORD

BREATH OF THE LORD

Isaiah 40:7-8 “The grass withers and the flowers fall, because the breath of the Lord blows on them. Surely the people are grass. The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever.”

The Scene: Wilted flowers and grass fallen because the breath of the Lord blew on them– a representation of mankind.

Mankind is frail and has mortality just like the plants of the earth. In this regard we pass through life into eternity. Unlike the plants that die and fade away back into the soil, mankind will spend the rest of his time, after death, in heaven or hell, based on each person’s choices regarding his relationship with or without Jesus Christ.

Job 4:8-9 “I have observed, those who plow evil and those who sow trouble reap it. At the breath of God they are destroyed; at the blast of his anger they perish.”

Psalm 34:9 “You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you. Each man’s life is but a breath.”

Our lives are brief– all mankind has but limited time to believe in the one true God and His Son Jesus, accept Him as Lord and Savior and choose to  and serve our Maker. Each person makes that choice for him- or herself and lives with the consequences, eternally.

5-158- LIFE

LIKE FLINT

LIKE FLINT

Isaiah 50:7-9 “Because the Sovereign Lord helps me, I will not be disgraced. Therefore have I set my face like flint, and I know I will not be put to shame. He who vindicates me is near. Who is he that will condemn me? They will all wear out like a garment; the moths will eat them up.”

The Scene: A representation of Isaiah’s face in rock, has set his face like flint.

Like Isaiah, God’s people are called to be steadfast in hope and belief in Father God, His Son, and the Holy Spirit who was sent to God’s people.

James 1:12 “Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.”

1 Peter 2:19 “For it is commendable if a man bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because he is conscious of God.”

We are often called by our Lord Jesus Christ,to endure hardships for His sake through the persecution and ridicule of unbelievers.

Matthew 10:22 “All men will hate you because of me, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved.”

Hebrews 3:6 ” But Christ is faithful as a son over God’s house. And we are his house, if we hold on to our courage and the hope of which we boast.”
