LIKE A SHOT ACROSS THE BOW

1 John 5:14 ” This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us- whatever we ask- we know that we have what we ask of him.”

Now when we ask, we may not recognize His reply, or have doubt, to our request and so we wait and pray again, asking for the same thing over and over. And since we belong to Him, and He is faithful, He may send a “shot across the bow”, like a wake up call, telling us to pay attention to His Word, and do what He says.

James 1:6-7 ” But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does.”

Even in God’s people,double-mindedness can cause doubt, especially when God’s reply doesn’t fit our preconceived outcome.

The Scene: The racing boat -1) People just racing along mindlessly, many expecting God to answer their prayers in their way. 2) Water splashes-God’s wake up call, “Heed, pay attention.”
