THE DEMAND FOR A SIGN
Matthew 16:1-3 ” The Pharisees and Sadducees came to Jesus asking him to show them a sign from heaven. He replied, ” When evening comes, you say, ‘It will be fair weather; for the sky is red’, and in the morning ,’Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.”
The Scene: 1) Jesus on the cross: Darkness- No hope, the world view.
2) The resurrection cross: Bright day- The sun is rising–hope, The Christian view.
3) The Tree in the middle, separating the two views: Representing the Tree of Life, looking somewhat like a cross. The Tree of Life has bright green leaves. One view is of a lost, dark world and the other a view of hope of resurrection day at Jesus’ return and eternal life.
The Pharisees & Sadducees thought they had won the battle, with Jesus, by His crucificxion, a great day for the believers in Him. He died for the sins of the world.
The empty cross represents the greatest victory for Christians. We know Jesus is alive and well. His resurrection guarantees us that those born again will rise to meet Him on that great day.
Matthew 28:5-7 ” The Angel said to the women,” Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said, Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples; he has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him. Now I have told you.”
HE IS RISEN! HALLELUJAH!
