NEEDLESS FEAR

1Kings 18:13 “Haven’t you heard, my Lord, what I did while Jezebel was killing the prophets of the Lord? I hid a hundred of the Lord’s prophets in two caves, fifty in each, and supplied them with food and water.”

The Scene: A cave–for hiding in times of fear, like that in which the prophets  were hidden by Obadiah.

1Kings 19:10 “He replied, ‘I have been very zealous for the Lord God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, broken down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too.’ ”  (This was the prophet Elijah speaking.)

We know from reading the rest of the Scripture lesson (Ref. 1 Kings 19:11-18) that Elijah was not alone. God had saved 7,000 prophets.

In the troubled times of this restless world, God’s people will have their needs met: they need not be fearful. God sees and knows all that is going on in our lives. He is in control and command of what happens to us and for us; His Word tells us so.  In the lesson with Obadiah there were 100 prophets divided into two groups of 50. In Bible numbers 100 represents the “elect” and God’s grace. The number 50 represents the Holy Spirit and deliverance.

The Holy Scriptures tell us, “Fear not for I am with you.” (ref. Isaiah 41:10)

Ephesians 2:17-18 ” He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.”
