Matthew 16:24 ” Then Jesus said to his disciples, ‘If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. ‘ “

The Scene: Representative of Jesus Christ our Lord carrying His cross to Gethsemane, where he was crucified on the cross for the sins of the whole world.

Our cross: Persecution from the world for Christ’s sake, that is, all suffering that Father God allows; which includes troubles and spiritual battles/obstacles (sin).

Matthew 10:38 “And he who does not take up his cross and follow Me (that is, cleave and steadfastly to Me, conforming wholly to My example in living and if need be in dying also) is not worthy of Me.” AMPLIFIED BIBLE

“It is a great encouragement to us, when we meet with crosses, that in bearing them we follow Christ, who has shown us the way, and that if we follow him faithfully, he will lead us through sufferings like him to glory with him.” Matthew Henry Commentary page 1256 Zondervan 1960)
