Psalm 46:1-2 “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea.”
The Scene: The ground opened a deep rift/fissure, symbolic of the sin that separates people from their God* followed by the cross of Jesus stretched across the chasm, bridging the gap of humankind–separation from God the Father, due to our sin nature. *The Jordan River is flowing at the bottom of the rift, representing freedom from sin, once crossed through saving faith in our Lord Jesus.
Numbers 16 (READ) : The consequences for disobedient, defiant men who rose up against Moses and Aaron. They were named Korah, Dathan, Abiram and their families, who were swallowed up by the earth as they stood before their tents.
THE POINT: Disobedience brings consequences of punishment; obedience brings salvation and rewards after salvation, to those who choose to follow Jesus the Christ. However, God is quick to forgive us of sins, if we will repent quickly. 2 Chronicles 7:14 “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
