CROWN OF LOVE

CROWN OF LOVE

Mark 15:17-18 “They put a purple robe on him, then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on him.  And they began to call out to him, ‘Hail, king of the Jews! ‘”

The Scene: The crown of thorns* came from a scrubby plant called burnet, which grew in the region in which Jesus taught. He wore the crown of thorns which we had deserved, that we might wear the crown of glory which he merited.” (Matthew Henry Commentary- Zondervan edition 1960)

“The Son of God loves us so much that He was willing to wear a crown of thorns, that those who believe might wear the crown of life,” said the Holy Spirit.

James 1:12 “Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.”

2 Timothy 4:8  “Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day–and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.”

*Three (3) strands make up the crown of thorns–three being the Biblical number for the Trinity. When Jesus suffered and was crucified, not only did Jesus suffer, but the wholeness of God was included, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
