CONTRASTS II

CONTRASTS II

Romans 13:12 “The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.”

The Scene: Contrasts represented by, scarlet (sin) and white (righteousness).

Where righteousness resides the darkness cannot prevail.

Genesis 1:4 “God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.” (A type and shadow)

Ephesians 5:8 “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light.”

Isaiah 1:18 ” ‘Come now, let us reason together.’ says the Lord. ‘Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.’ “

Matthew 6:22-23 ” The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, you whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness’s, how great is that darkness!”

Spiritual blindness leaves a person exposed to the enemy, Satan. We are called to stay in the light. Read God”s Word daily. Call on the Holy Spirit to guide you in all righteousness.

6-35 LIGHT

PRESENCE OF THE LORD

PRESENCE OF THE LORD

Job 36:26-27 “How great is God–beyond our understanding! The number of his years is past finding out. He draws up the drops of water, which distill as rain to the streams.”

The Scene: A passing thunderstorm (God’s power through storms, thunder, lightning, hail). The clouds are a covering of the Lord. The thunder represents His power. The lightning, symbolic of the justice of the Lord and hail, which can be a judgment.

Job 36:28-30 “The clouds pour down their moisture and abundant showers fall on mankind. Who can understand how he spreads out the clouds, how he thunders from his pavilion? See how he scatters the lightning about him, bathing the depths of the sea?”

Job 36:31-33 “This is the way he governs the nations and provides food in abundance. He fills his hands with lightning and commands it to strike its mark. His thunder announces the coming storm; even the cattle make known its approach.”

Exodus 9:25 “Throughout Egypt hail struck everything in the fields–both men and animals; it beat down everything growing in the fields and stripped every tree.”

Our God is a mighty God! He created all things for His use and pleasure.

6-36 RIGHTEOUSNESS

TRUST NOT IN IDOLS

TRUST NOT IN IDOLS

Isaiah 44:9 “All who make idols are nothing, and the things they treasure are worthless. Those who would speak up for them are blind; they are ignorant, to their own shame.”

The Scene: A hand-made wooden idol–trust not in idols, whether wood, silver, gold, or money. “Trusting in false idols leads to ignorance, shame, and ruin,” said the Holy Spirit through His Word.

Isaiah 44:10-11 “Who shapes a god and casts an idol, which can profit him nothing? He and his kind will be put to shame; craftsmen are nothing but men. Let them all come together and take their stand; they will be brought down to terror and infamy.” Also read v v.12-21 for better understanding.

Man uses his resources for many things, including making idols–people who fashion or trust in idols have no understanding of what they do.

Psalm 20:7 “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.”

6-34 IDOLS

GOD’S PLAN

GOD’S PLAN

Genesis 45:3-5, 7-8 ” Joseph said to his brothers, ‘I am Joseph! Is my father still living?’ But his brothers were not able to answer him, because they were terrified at his presence. Then Joseph said to his brothers, ‘Come close to me.’ When they had done so, he said, ‘I am your brother Joseph, the one you sold into Egypt! And now do not be distressed and do not be angry with yourselves for selling me here, because it was to save lives that God sent me ahead of you. But God sent me ahead of you to preserve for you a remnant on earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance. So then, it was not you who sent me here, but God. He made me father to Pharaoh, lord of his entire household and ruler of all Egypt.’ “

The Scene: Clock and calendar showing the passage of time.

God has a plan for every life–the story of Joseph and his brothers exemplifies this point. (Read Genesis 45 for complete understanding.)

Satan wants to put fear into everyone to thwart God’s plan for our lives. God’s people are required to stay steadfast in their faith. Joseph remained sure in his faith in God, rising to be second in command over the Egyptian nation under Pharaoh.

Ecclesiastes 3:17. “I thought in my heart, ‘God will bring to judgment both the righteous and the wicked, for there will be a time for every activity, a time for every deed.’ “

Because Joseph was faithful to God, Father God was able to use Joseph to save the Israelites (a remnant). Joseph is seen as a type of Christ because of his role as a savior.

6-32 TIME

COMPLETE IN HIM

COMPLETE IN HIM II

John 9:4 ” As long as it is day, we must do the work of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work.”

The Scene: A flower in full bloom and complete.

Like this flower, our Lord tells us we, too, are complete in Him. We have been given everything we need to grow spiritually in this world, living a life of godliness, through our knowledge of Him, Jesus Christ.

Filled with the Holy Spirit, we who are born-again Christians are equipped to do whatever tasks God has for us. “You are well able,” said the Holy Spirit.

Psalm 37:3-6 “Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.”

6-31 EQUIPPED FOR SERVICE

FENCES/WALLS

FENCES/WALLS

Ephesians 2:14 ” For he himself is our peace, who has made the two one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, by abolishing in his flesh the law with its commandments and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new man out of the two, thus making peace.”

The Scene: A fence or wall–a barrier erected by fearful people.

People build fences or barriers,* both physical and mental, quickened the Holy Spirit. “They try to close themselves in and the world out; at the same time they have closed out the great I AM. John 1:11 “He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.” *Barriers are erected because of social status, religion, ethnic background, etc.

John 16:33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

6-30 BARRIERS

ENTER HIS GATES

ENTER HIS GATES

Psalm 100:4-5 “Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.”

The Scene: The gates* into heaven (pearl gates with gold posts) through which the righteous people must enter.

Psalm 118:19-21 “Open for me the gates of righteousness; I will enter and give thanks to the Lord. This is the gate of the Lord through which the righteous may enter. I will give you thanks, for you answered me; you have become my salvation.”

Likewise, God’s people will go in and go out of the holy city, the New Jerusalem, by way of the gates. Revelation 21:21 “The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate made of a single pearl. The great street of the city was of pure gold, like transparent glass.”

Revelation 22:14 “Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city.”

All whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life will enter through God’s gates:

  • Jesus is the gate through which all must pass to gain access to heaven. He is the only way to salvation, through belief in Him, the only Son of God, our Savior.

6-29 HEAVEN’S GATES

THE BOOK OF THE LAW

THE BOOK OF THE LAW

Galatians 3:10 “All who rely on observing the law are under a curse, for it is written: ‘Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.’ “

The Scene: The Book of the Law (or Torah*)

*Torah: Hebrew for instruction or law comprised of the first five books of Moses.

We are told in the Holy Scriptures to be doers of the Word, “Do not merely listen to the Word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” (James 1:22)

Jesus came to earth to show himself as the Lawgiver and to lead the way to our salvation.

Romans 13:8-10 “Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellow man has fulfilled the law. The commandments, Do not commit adultery, do not murder, do not steal, do not covet, and whatever other commandment there may be, are summed up in this one rule: love your neighbor as yourself. Love does no harm to its neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.”

6-28 THE LAW

SEVENTH DAY (REST)

SEVENTH DAY

Genesis 2:2 “By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work.”

Hebrews 4:9-10 “There remains, then a Sabbath-rest for the people of God. For anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from his.”

The Scene: The tools have been laid down–the day’s & week’s work is finished. God reminds us in His Word to rest from not only our physical labor, but that one day we will enjoy our spiritual rest with Him in heaven.

Revelation 14:13 “Then I heard a voice from heaven say, ‘Write: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on. Yes, says the Spirit, they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them. ‘ “

For those who refuse to worship our holy God through Jesus the Christ, there will be no rest in the Day of Judgment that is coming for all people.

Revelation 14:11 “And the smoke of their torment rises forever and ever. There is no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and his image, or for anyone who receives the the mark of his name.”

6-27 REST

ALIVE TO CHRIST

ALIVE TO CHRIST

Romans 6:18 “You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.”

The Scene: Grave marker/headstone reading “Dead to Sin” and a rising spirit representing being alive to Christ; three birds off in the distance symbolic of the holy trinity: God the Father, Jesus Christ His only-begotten Son, God the Holy Spirit.

Romans 6:5 “If we have been united* with him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection.” *United/fused, as in welded together.

Romans 6:7 “Because anyone who has died has been freed from sin.”

The flesh has died–and for the born-again Christian the new man has emerged.

Romans 6:10-11 ” The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.”

I Peter 2:24 ” He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.”

For complete understanding read Romans 6:1-14

6-35 DEAD TO SIN
