MATTHEW 7:14 “But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”
The scene: A gravel road, straight and narrow, with a Christian person walking on the path; serpent holes in the ground along each side of the narrow way, representing those things that cause God’s people to leave the straight and narrow path (the way of holiness).
Snakes/serpents came out of the holes and tried to bite God’s own. However, the double-edged sword was being held by this Christian person–representing the Word of God. This was enough to keep the snakes at bay.
When trials come we are to hold steady, on the way, speaking out with God’s Word and prayer to stop the attacks of the enemy. If God’s people stay on the narrow road we will arrive at our eternal destination, heaven, and receive our promised rewards and our home with God forever.
James 1:12 -13 “Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God had promised to those who love him. When tempted, no one should say, ‘God is tempting me.’ For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desires, he is dragged away and enticed.”
