Romans 16:17-18 “I urge you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them. For such people are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the minds of naive people.”
The Scene: Flower bed representing the saints of the Church–with weeds growing among the flowers; symbolic of false teachers infiltrating the one true Church–creating the apostate church.*
*Satan seeks to conquer and destroy God’s Church by dividing and weakening it in the process, but we know that he cannot win!
God’s Word is not only for instruction but is also intended for us to be hopeful.
Romans 15:4 “For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.”
Ephesians 5:6-7 “Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient. Therefore do not be partners with them.”
Matthew 16:11-12 ” ‘How is it you don’t understand that I was not talking to you about bread? But be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.’Then they understood that he was not telling them to guard against the yeast used in bread, but against the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”
We are called to read the Word for ourselves and to allow the Holy Spirit to lead us in the interpretation to show ourselves approved unto God. (Also see 2 Timothy 2:15)
